In a major development, an accountability court on Thursday returned to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) the reference filed in the plot allotment case against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and several others.
The reference was returned by the court in accordance with the changes made in the NAB rules.
The case against Sharif and others is related to allegations of corruption and illegal allotment of land during his prime ministership.
However, the reference was stopped due to changes in the NAB rules by the current coalition government.
Nawaz Sharif, who has been living in exile in London since 2019, was declared a fugitive in the case after failing to appear in court.
His supporters claimed that the case against him was politically motivated.
