LAHORE: As Imran Khan did not appear in person before the Lahore High Court (LHC), he filed a case against him on behalf of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman for protesting outside the Election Commission of Pakistan. I rejected the application for protective bail. (ECP) Office.
The former prime minister approached the Lahore High Court after the anti-terrorism court (ATC) of Islamabad canceled his bail.
On Wednesday, Imran Khan’s bail was canceled by the ATC after Imran Khan did not appear and sought another exemption on medical grounds. Rejecting the plea, the court directed the PTI leader to ensure attendance by 3:30 PM, however, the summons was challenged in the High Court.
At the beginning of the hearing, advocate Azhar Siddique submitted his power of attorney on behalf of Imran Khan, who was directed to appear in court in person today.
The lawyer, arguing in front of the court, said that Imran Khan’s meeting with doctors is going on and the party has concerns about his security.
“How much time do you need?” Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh asked the question.
On this query, the lawyer said that he will try his best to ensure the presence of Imran Khan in two hours.
After which the court adjourned the hearing till 12:30.
As the hearing resumed, Siddique’s partner requested more time. After which the court adjourned the hearing till 2 pm.
When the hearing resumed, the lawyer told the court that another bail application had been filed. He also said that he has met the doctors and is ready to comply with the court orders. The lawyer also told the court that the former prime minister’s doctor was also present in the court.
However, Justice Shaikh said that he did not want to hear from the doctor. He said that Imran Khan should appear in court.
The lawyer then asked the court to wait for the second bail application which is being filed.
Justice Shaikh inquired that there was no need to wait for him to present his arguments on the present application.
The lawyer then told the judge that he wanted to withdraw the current petition.
On which Justice Shaikh remarked that the problem is that there are different marks of Imran Khan on the affidavit and power of attorney.
“How can the signatures be different?” the court asked.
Khan’s lawyer then asked the court to give time to look into the matter.
“You see it now. If someone tried to commit fraud, I will issue contempt of court notice to you or Imran Khan,” remarked Justice Shaikh. Will take it.
Siddiqui replied that I will have to take instructions from Imran Khan on this.
Taking notice of the various signatures, the court adjourned the hearing till half past six in the evening.
