ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has decided to convene a meeting to consider filing a reference against a Supreme Court judge over the leaked audio, in which the judge and former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi is included.

In the leaked audio, Elahi, a close aide of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, can be heard allegedly talking about the administration of the courts.

However, the former chief minister said that the conversation with a lawyer had been taped and distorted and there was nothing wrong with the audio.

PBC has called a meeting of heads of all provincial bar councils, including the Islamabad Bar Council, to file a reference in the Supreme Judicial Council (JSC).

PBC Executive Committee Chairman Hasan Raza Pasha said that the Council has convened a meeting in Islamabad next week, possibly on February 23, to discuss this important issue.

He confirmed to JEE News that vice-chairmen of all the provincial bar councils as well as the chairman of the Islamabad Bar Council will also be invited to the meeting.

He said that once the meeting deliberates and approves the filing of the reference, it will be filed in the SJC, and the decision of the meeting can also be shared with the media.

He said that he had held a press conference in Lahore a few days ago and had demanded a forensic test of the alleged audio tape. Also, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Abid S. Zuberi termed the audio leaks as fake.

“I have gone through the audio recording and I can clearly say that this is audio piracy,” Zuberi said.
