Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday convened a meeting of the National Apex Committee in Islamabad (today) in which the law and order situation in the country will be considered.

An informed source told JEE News that the meeting will begin at 3 pm at the Prime Minister’s House.

The apex committee will discuss and formulate strategies to deal with the wave of terrorism in different parts of the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will preside over the meeting in which Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir, Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. General Nadeem Anjum, Director Intelligence Bureau. And other intelligence chiefs along with service chiefs will participate. Heads of agencies

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif will also attend the meeting.

The sources also said that this meeting was of significant importance in the context of the recent visit of the Defense Minister and DGISI to Kabul.

Such a high-level visit from Islamabad came after a long hiatus. It is understood that the activities of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) using Afghan soil, which is causing serious harm to peace in Pakistan, came up for detailed discussion during the delegation’s stay in Kabul.

Sources also said that the Taliban administration of Afghanistan had assured Pakistan soon after assuming power in the Afghan capital that they would not allow any terrorist elements to use their soil against Pakistan.

The Pakistani delegation informed the Afghan negotiators about the TTP hideouts in Afghanistan.

Sources also added that the defense minister will present a report on his visit to Kabul and inform about the discussions held during the talks with the Afghan interim government.

Sources said that the peace and order situation in the country will also be discussed in the meeting.

It is noteworthy that the government had decided to hold the All Parties Conference (APC) after the Peshawar Police Lines mosque attack earlier this month.

In response, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan rejected the idea of convening the APC and declined the invitation to participate in the important moot.

APC was suspended and could not be reset.

Sources indicated that Imran did not want to be seen supporting any action that would curb the activities of the TTP and that is why he chose to stay away from the APC idea.
