Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has said his aim is to “do my best” to win the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Supernova Trophy.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore on Saturday, Babar said that we will try to play good cricket. We will not focus on the previous matches but work on our shortcomings. Winning the PSL is every player’s dream and if we do our best, we will win the trophy.
When asked where his positivity comes from despite people criticizing him regardless of his performance, he said: “You should always be positive but not overconfident. Try to stay humble because I know where I come from. Every single one with a smile.”
Zalmi will meet Shaheen Shah Afridi-led Lahore Qalandars in their next match at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
Asked about facing Shaheen, the batsman said: “Every time I play against Shaheen and Lahore Qalandars, I try to give my best. Everyone knows that he is among the best bowlers in Pakistan. is one of the best, and is improving day by day. It is tough to play against him, but you believe you are playing the best bowler. You will see the competition between us.”
Babar, who is the captain of the Pakistan national team, said that captaining a franchise team is different as compared to the national team because you have to manage and accommodate foreign players in league cricket.
The star batsman also highlighted the youngsters performing in the ongoing PSL and said it is a golden opportunity for them.
“It’s a learning opportunity when you share the dressing room with different players. The more cricket they play, the more they shine and come out on top,” he said.
Babar opens the batting alongside Mohammad Rizwan in the national team, while young aggressive batsman Mohammad Haris is his opening partner for Peshawar Zalmi.
On the difference between his two partners, Babar said: “I enjoy with every player. You have to enjoy but also perform and play according to the demands of the situation. There are times like this. When I struggle, Rizwan steps up and vice versa. The opening stance is good.
Haris is a young man and his style is different. He tries to dominate the opposition and the way he is giving us favorable starts is very good. It will have good results,” he said.
It should be noted that Zalmi is currently fourth in the points table.
