Meta-owned WhatsApp is improving the user experience by introducing new updates and features in the application for all its versions – Android, iOS and desktop.
If you have been missing out on the latest updates and features being introduced to the instant messaging app, now is the time to catch up.
Some features are still in development and not yet available to all testers or may roll out to users gradually over the coming weeks while some are available to beta testers.
If you are unable to use a particular feature, you need to update the app in the future to access it.
Here’s a roundup of updates and new features.
Edit message.
WhatsApp is introducing the ability to edit messages within 15 minutes of a user sending a message. This will allow users to correct any errors or add more information to the original message.
This feature is in development but is available to beta users through the iOS 23.4.0.72 update.
“The company continues to work on the ability to edit messages by adding an ‘unsupported message’ when it’s not compatible with your version of WhatsApp,” WaBetaInfo said.
Search bar
Users can now easily filter the messaging app as the search bar is being released to beta testers. iOS users can access it through the 23.4.0.73 update.
Newsletter
The messaging app is working on a private newsletter tool. It will be more of a tool for disseminating information and looks like a new way to easily get useful updates from people and groups like local officials, sports teams, or other organizations.
This will allow users to choose “who they want to hear from and follow their favorite broadcasters right within WhatsApp.”
Disappearing messages
WhatsApp is allowing users to prevent their messages from disappearing as they can save those messages after they expire.
Profile icons
The instant messaging app is working on a feature regarding profile icons in group chats. This feature is still under development and will be available in a future update.
High quality images
This is one of the most anticipated features of WhatsApp that will allow users to send images in their original quality.
Users will have the option to either send a compressed image if they want to save storage, however, they can also send in original quality.
Report the situation.
The messaging app has come up with another update for its users if they are worried about something inappropriate or something that is against WhatsApp’s terms on status updates.
This will allow users to report any status updates through it. Once you report a status update, it will be forwarded to the moderation team.
Schedule group calls
WhatsApp is also working on the ability to schedule calls, which will allow group members to plan around their schedule.
This feature is still under development and will be released in a future update of the Android app.
