PTI suspends ‘Jail Bharo’ movement after Supreme Court verdict on Punjab and KP elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to suspend its ‘Jail Bharo’ movement and go ahead with the election campaign in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab, party chairman Imran Khan said on Twitter on Wednesday. Earlier today, the Supreme Court in a separate judgment on the suo motu notices taken for the delay in the KP and Punjab Assembly elections ordered the elections to be held within 90 days.

The Supreme Court asked the President to consult the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to fix the date of the elections in Punjab while Governor KP was ordered to announce the date of the elections in the province.

Imran Khan, whose party was one of the petitioners in the election delay case, said it was an assertion of the rule of law in Pakistan.

“We are suspending our Jail Bharo movement and going ahead with the election campaign in KP and Punjab.”

Yesterday, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry had termed the decision as a confirmation of his position.

“In fact, it is a unanimous decision because Justice Mansoor Ali Shah had also said that when the Lahore High Court took up the matter and decided that the elections should be held within 90 days, the Supreme Court should not have automatically taken notice of it. Chaudhry said.

“So he also agrees with our position. And this is the victory of the constitution.

Meanwhile, barring Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed from speaking outside the Supreme Court after the verdict, Fawad said that the President has been asked to announce elections in Punjab while Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been asked to fix the election date. Directed.

The PTI leader added that the Supreme Court has ordered the federation to provide all assistance in providing its security or funds.

“Elections are the foundation of the state”.

On the other hand, AML Sheikh Rasheed congratulated the nation on the verdict and asked the country to “prepare for elections”.

“This is a great victory. The Constitution has won and the people of Pakistan have won.

He predicted: “Inshallah, PTI is going to form governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab”.
