Instant messaging application WhatsApp is rolling out a new update through the Google Play beta program, bringing its version to 2.23.5.9. The latest update has two new features, including the ability to report status updates and an always-available “silent” feature.
Reporting status updates
The application is introducing the ability to report status updates in its new beta update. Users will be able to report status updates that they believe violate the “Terms of Service”.

This feature has already been released to some beta testers who installed the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.4.0.74 update from the TestFlight app and now it has been released to users on the latest Android beta.
Any status reported by a user will be forwarded to WhatsApp for moderation. If the moderation team finds that it has violated their “Terms of Service”, the account may be suspended from WhatsApp.
The feature doesn’t compromise end-to-end encryption, which protects messages and calls across devices. This means that no one other than the sender and receiver of the communication, not even WhatsApp, Meta, or the proxy provider, can read your messages and listen to your private calls.
Always available mute button
Additionally, some users may see a silence option in their message notifications. WhatsApp had already released this feature in 2017, though the mute button was only visible when a contact or group received a large number of messages. After this update, the mute button is always visible in any mode.
