Amjad Shoaib acquitted of incitement case against state institutions

Former army officer Amjad Shoaib has been acquitted of the case of inciting people against state institutions and spreading hatred.

The retired army officer was arrested by the Islamabad Police in a pre-dawn operation on February 27 from his residence in the federal capital. He was in police custody since a local court in the federal capital sent him to three-day physical remand after his arrest on the first day.

This development took place on Thursday in the District and Sessions Court of Islamabad during the hearing of Lt Gen (Rtd) Shoaib’s physical remand petition.

Shoaib’s lawyer Mian Ashfaq presented his arguments before Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas supra and requested to acquit the retired army officer from the case.

However, the prosecutor opposed the request.

After the arguments of the lawyers were completed, the supra reserved the decision on the revision petition. In the verdict, announced later, the court acquitted Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib from the case.

Arrest.
On February 27, Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib was detained by Ramna police officials from his residence in the federal capital after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against him.

The FIR was filed on February 25 at Islamabad’s Ramna Police Station – under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups) and 505 (statements inciting public disorder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on a complaint by the Islamabad Magistrate. was registered under Owais Khan

The complainant had alleged that the ex-army officer, through his controversial statements on a TV show, incited people to revolt against the institutions and tried to create unrest and chaos and create a law and order situation in the country.

“Through his comments and analyses, Lt Gen (Rtd) Amjad Shoaib has incited civil servants against the discharge of their official duties. His controversial advice to the public, civil servants and opposition parties is aimed at promoting animosity between them. People.”

The ex-army official’s statement in the FIR was part of a “planned conspiracy” to weaken the country.

Lt Gen (retd) Shoaib was earlier summoned by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following claims of a meeting between the Pakistani prime minister and an Israeli team on September 7. However, he failed to appear before the Cyber Crimes Wing of the FIA.
