KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan on Sunday notified the results of Karachi’s 215 Union Committees (UCs), according to which Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) won equal number of UCs.
Municipal elections were held in 235 of Karachi’s 246 USCs in January. However, the commission declared the candidates successful at 215 UCs and withheld the results of 20 UCs. People’s Party won 84 UCs and Jamaat-e-Islami won the same number.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf won 40 UCs, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz 5 UCs, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam one UC and an independent candidate also won one seat. Thus, the People’s Party and its allies won a total of 91 UCs.
ECP has released the notification of seats of Union Committees of Hyderabad according to which Mayor of Hyderabad will come for the first time. In Hyderabad, PPP became the largest party with 92 seats.
Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has 160 seats. PTI won 39 seats, Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan two and independent candidates won 13 seats.
In the municipal elections, the People’s Party won 37 UC seats in Thatta, while three seats were won by independent candidates. Other parties failed to get a single UC in Thatta.
Similarly, PPP candidates won all 9 seats of Municipal Committee Thatta, 7 UC of Makli Town Committee, 8 seats of Gharo Town Committee and 3 seats of Sakro Town Committee.
ECP released the notification of the success of about 4 thousand local body representatives who won in 16 districts of the second phase in Sindh.
