ISLAMABAD: Army Chief General Asim Munir, at a meeting with the top 10 businessmen in the country, assured him in the presence of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday night that the worst is behind us, the country has overcome the possibility of default. And we will prevail as a nation.
There is no official word about the meeting, but sources said that the Army chief hoped for the entire meeting and lifted confidence that the current economic difficulties would be overcome. He told the traders to be strong and confident.
According to a source, the Army Chief told top businessmen representing various sectors that the nations have a difficult time and we also have a difficult time, but the worst is behind us and we will prevail. General Asim repeatedly cited Islamic teachings to assure his audience that Pakistan would be successfully overcome in the current testing hours.
One participants, who attended the meeting but insisted on being anonymous, said the traders had requested the Army Chief for the meeting. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was invited by the Army Chief to attend the meeting, which was declared very successful by the traders.
The traders were told by the Army Chief and the Finance Minister had fulfilled all the previous IMF conditions and it is expected that the deal will be made within a few days. The meeting was informed that the IMF has said that contracts with friendly countries should also be documents for the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Traders were told that promises have been made from friendly countries to invest in agriculture, mining and IT. The government expects modern equality from these countries. It was said that the civil and military leadership worked to secure those promises.
According to a source, traders from the Army Chief asked why the establishment is not sitting to meet the serious challenges facing the country.
Traders who conveyed the army chief expected the nation that the army would not allow polarization and chaos to deepen.
Sources said that the Army Chief said that the army was playing its role and trying to create a consensus.
One of the people in the meeting also said that there was only one obstacle to reaching the most important consensus.
Ten traders – Five from Lahore and Karachi met the Army Chief.
