Geneva: UN Rights Chief Woolker Turk on Tuesday called for Beijing to deal with “serious concerns” on human rights situation in Xinjiang Province, China.

Turks have faced pressure from Western countries and rights organizations to take a strong stand on Xinjiang after a report of a bombing of their predecessors, citing potential crimes against humanity in the Western region.

Turkey said in his central speech at the UN Human Rights Council meeting, saying that the United Nations is concerned about the protection of minorities such as Xinjiang and Tibetans in Tibetans.

“About China, we have opened communication channels with several actors to deal with numerous human rights issues,” said Turkey.

“In the Xinjiang region, my office has documented serious concerns-especially massive discretionary detention and family separation-and it made important recommendations that require solid followings.”

On the far -reaching national security law in Hong Kong, Turkey also expressed anxiety in Hong Kong, imposed to end disagreement after a major demonstration of democracy in 2020.

“We generally have concerns about the strict restrictions of the urban space, including the negligence of human rights guards and lawyers, and the effects of the national security law in Hong Kong,” he said.

Torture allegations ‘credible’

Turkish remarks came out during the first set of speech from the Council in Geneva after the UN High Commissioner was held in October.

Just 13 minutes before its expiry on August 31, Turkish predecessor Michelle Bachelet published a long -awaited report about Xinjiang.

It details violations of rights against Uighurs and other Muslim minorities, highlighting the “credible” allegations of mass violence, discretionary detention and religious and reproductive violations.

Beijing strongly dismissed the allegations and insisted that it operates vocational training centers in the region to counter extremism.

In response to Turkish speech, Chinese Ambassador Chen Suu said Beijing’s efforts to tackle terrorism and fundamentalism, human rights in Xinjiang were “well -protected”.

He said, “Xinjiang and Tibet enjoy a permanent economic growth, harmony and stable society, are permanently improved in society, prosperous culture, peaceful mutual mutual achievements of all religions and extraordinary achievements in the development of human rights. Enjoy. “

And since the law of national security has come to light, “all the legitimate rights and freedom of the people of Hong Kong are better”.

Last October, Western countries, headed by the United States, tried to discuss the Xinjiang report at the Human Rights Council.

But in the 47 council members, the Chinese lobbying saw the United Nations voting for 19-17 against discussing the results, which avoided 11.

US Ambassador Michelle Taylor called on the Council on Tuesday to “take action to deal with human rights and ongoing violations in Xinjiang”.

Meanwhile, British Ambassador Simon Manli called on Beijing to stop “denying the facts and with the recommendations of the Turkish office” denying the facts and engaging seriously and constructively.

And Hillary Power, director of Human Rights Watch’s Geneva, called on the Council to “investigate the major rights abuses in China, including Xinjiang,” indicating that the call was “all regions and the United Nations.” Hundreds of other non -governmental organizations of experts have been done. “
