A spokesperson of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) said on Friday that 12 terrorists have been arrested from three different cities including Lahore.
The CTD official said that three militants were detained from a sensitive area of Lahore, adding that the terrorists caught during the raids belong to Al-Qaeda and the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). .
“Explosives and materials used to make suicide jackets were recovered from the terrorists,” officials said.
The statement said that they were planning sabotage activities in sensitive areas. He added that a case has been registered against the detained persons and investigation has been started.
The spokesperson added that 159 suspects have been arrested during 797 combing and search operations by CTD this week.
As Pakistan has been reeling under terror attacks for the past few months, the country’s civil and military leadership has vowed to unite against terrorists.
The National Apex Committee, comprising the country’s top military and political leadership, also last month sought a national consensus to root out militancy.
Recent terrorist attacks in rural and urban centers of the country, which have claimed the lives of innocent Pakistanis and law enforcement agencies, have prompted the security forces and law enforcement agencies to step up operations against them.
