PSL 2023: Multan Sultans beat Peshawar Zalmi to confirm place in playoffs

Multan Sultans defeated Peshawar Zalmi by four wickets in the 27th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023 being played at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.

Multan Sultans were unstoppable with Riley Rossouw as they helped their team set a new PSL run record, chasing a record 241 runs against the same team, Quetta Gladiators, during today’s match. Zalmi’s 243 was followed a few days later. .

Russo was exceptional as he also broke his own record for the fastest century in the PSL. The left-handed batsman scored a century off just 41 balls. His previous record was a 43-ball century against Quetta Gladiators in 2020.

The left-handed batsman scored 121 runs with 12 fours and eight sixes to help Sultans chase a big total with five balls to spare.

In the absence of regular captain Babar Azam, who missed the field due to fever, Zalmi took the opening two wickets. But, Russo combined with Kieron Pollard to score 99 off just 43 balls to turn the game around for his team.

Pollard scored a brilliant fifty to help Sultans chase the big target, scoring 52 off 25 balls which included five maximums and three fours.

In the end, it was Anwar Ali who ended the game for Sultans. After bowling the joint second costliest spell in the PSL today, Anwar played a key role for his team with the bat. He remained not out scoring a match-winning 24 off just eight balls.

On behalf of Zalmi, Azmatullah Umarzai took two wickets while Mujeebur Rahman, Arshad Iqbal, Wahab Riaz and Saeem Ayub took one wicket each.

Earlier, Zalmi’s openers Babar and Saim set the tone to set up another big total for their team.

Babar and Saim combined for 134 runs and helped Zalmi to 242-6 in 20 overs, which is now the second highest total in this year’s PSL.

The skipper scored a fifty with a better strike rate while Sime once again dominated from the front. Babar scored 73 runs with nine fours and two maximums while Saim scored 58 runs in 33 overs.

Zalmi’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris scored a quick 35 off 11 balls to contribute important runs to the team’s big total. In the end, Tom Koehler-Cadmore played a firepower innings of 38 off 18 balls.

Abbas Afridi was the top bowler for Sultans as he took four wickets.
