For first time, govt came out with Toshakhana’s records

Complying with the Lahore High Court (LHC) orders, the federal government on Sunday made public the records of state officials who received Toshakhana gifts since 2002.

A 466-page record of Toshakhana’s gifts has been uploaded on the Cabinet Division’s website.

The move comes days after the federal government informed the LHC that records of Toshakhana’s gifts dating back to 2002 were being “declassified” and that the final consideration was pending. Later it will be uploaded on the internet.

The LHC had on January 19 directed the government to submit an affidavit describing the details of Toshakhana’s gifts as “classified”.

According to the details, Khan bought a watch (graph number AU750) 18 carat gold and diamonds worth Rs 85 million, a pair of cuff links (over Rs 5.6 million), a pen (Rs 1.5 million) and a ring (Rs8.7m) kept to himself by depositing only Rs.20.17 million in Toshakhana.

In 2016, Nawaz Sharif’s wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, collected Rs 10.8 million and kept a bracelet, necklace and earrings worth Rs 12.7 million (Rs 41.6 million).
