Political parties urged to create consensus on elections.

LAHORE: More than one hundred leading organizations of civil society, bar councils, human rights organizations, journalists, editors, women, trade union federations and leading intellectuals have urged all the political parties to have their time and framework of elections. Resolve differences through dialogue and negotiation.

He suggested reaching a national consensus in Parliament and holding an All-Party Conference as civil society was ready to facilitate it as a relevant and impartial mediator.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the civil society said: “We, the concerned citizens of Pakistan, are committed to constitutional governance and a sustainable democratic system, based on a smooth electoral transition through free, fair and transparent elections. , has agreed to this after appealing to all political parties and legitimate stakeholders including the Government, Election Commission of Pakistan, Supreme Court of Pakistan and all civil society organizations.

He said: “The political crisis is becoming increasingly complex, compounding the economic woes of the people. The leadership of the major political parties is on the warpath and has little room for negotiation and accommodation.” Before things get out of everyone’s hands, we feel extremely concerned about these kinds of existential crises that could have dire consequences for the nation.

In its appeal, the civil society said: “Therefore, with all sincerity and a non-partisan approach, we call upon all political parties, especially parliamentary parties, to end the current confrontational and intolerant rhetoric. and resolve them together. Their political differences lie in holding elections in the larger interest of the country, the supremacy of the Constitution and a peaceful democratic transition by mutual consent.

It added: “We appeal to all parliamentary parties to hold an All-Party Conference and sit together in Parliament to find a reasonable way out of the current political and constitutional impasse and to ensure diversity.” Reach a broad consensus on holding inclusive elections.A mutual agreement on fair play and even playing field for all to give people a free choice to mandate their elected representatives.
