‘Drunken’ PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur allegedly attacked a police check post in Punjab.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur and members of his convoy allegedly attacked a police check post in Punjab, JEE News reported on Monday, quoting police officials.

According to the police, Gandapur allegedly created a scene at the Dajjal check post on his way to Dera Ismail Khan.

Bhakkar police spokesperson said that Gandapur’s car was stopped at the Dujl check post due to high speed. The spokesman said that after stopping the vehicle, the PTI leader had an argument with the police.

He said Gandapur and his accomplices opened fire at the check post and left during a heated argument. He said that Gandapur was under the influence of alcohol.

Police say all vehicles are checked in at security posts along the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Gandapur and his men escaped after creating a scene and firing, police said.

Case registered over firing incident at Dajal checkpost

Later, the police said that a case of firing at the Dajjal check post has been registered. The FIR has been registered under 13 sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which include terrorism.

In the FIR, the police say that Ali Amin reached the Dajjal check post along with other vehicles and when they were stopped, the PTI leader and his armed associates started rioting and came to the scene.

In the FIR, the police said the PTI leader ordered his security guards to open fire, which they complied with. Police said in the FIR that the bullets hit the police vehicle and the law enforcement personnel [at the scene] dodged the bullets to save their lives.

After the firing, the PTI leader and his armed men escaped by breaking the barrier.

Guards detained

Meanwhile, District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Naveed said that four guards were detained and Gandapur’s vehicle was seized.

He identified the detained persons as Aftab, Shakeel, Altaf and Naik Mohammad. The arrested persons belong to Chakwal, Talagang, Attock and Khyber. DPO said that legal action is being taken against other accused including Ali Amin Gandapur.

He also confirmed that Gandapur rioted and opened fire when his convoy was stopped for checking at the Dajjal check post.
