Kylian Mbappe scored his first goals as France captain as the World Cup finalists began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a comfortable victory over the Netherlands.
The hosts were ahead after just two minutes when Antoine Griezmann curled in Mbappe’s pass.
Defender Dewitt Apamicano made it 2-0 six minutes later.
Mbappe then scored his 37th goal for France when he drove in, before slotting home his second late on.
Griezmann was reportedly unhappy at being overlooked for the captaincy role given to Mbappe, but there were no signs of friction between the pair as they celebrated Mbappe’s first of the night in the 21st minute.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker had a superb solo effort two minutes from time as he left Dutch players scrambling to block his shot before finishing into the bottom corner.
Memphis Depay had a chance for a consolation deep into stoppage time for the visitors, but his penalty was saved.
It ended a disappointing first game for Ronald Koeman in his second spell as Netherlands boss, although it was not helped by a flu virus that saw five players sent home on the eve of the game. .

France, however, were topped by Austria, for whom Manchester United’s Marcel Sabitzer scored twice in a 4-1 victory over Azerbaijan.
