Multiple Mobile Applications at risk of Cyber-Attacks: Study

Amidst the increasing digitization in the technological world, the risks of cyber attacks are increasing with each passing day. Similar concerns were expressed in a Promon study that found that nearly 81 percent of mobile apps could be targeted by cyber attacks, JEE News reported.

These findings reveal that people are increasingly insecure about their personal data, which can be targeted by cyber attackers.

The study analyzed more than 350 mobile applications, revealing that every app is vulnerable to any attack.

Mobiles were those with insecure data storage and inadequate security encryption measures. These vulnerabilities can be exploited by attackers to gain illegal access to users’ personal data.

Within these devices, 84% of them were not smart enough to detect any malicious attempt or any potential data or security breach.

The study also highlighted “repackaging” — a key hack — that allows attackers to gain access and run additional processes that mobile isn’t otherwise designed to do. In this way, hackers can gain complete control and information on their target. Only 15% of devices have ensured protection against these measures.

As the alarming results have raised security concerns, it is recommended that developers should conduct security checks and identify vulnerabilities. Users are also advised to avoid downloading data or applications from unknown sources, especially those that require sensitive access to personal information.

Recently, a world famous automobile company has been cyber-attacked.

The report comes at a time when there is a record number of mobile users worldwide and millions of people rely on mobile phones for their information, banking, healthcare transportation, etc. This trend has motivated criminals to steal people’s personal data and target them for their own illicit purposes.

It is highly recommended that mobile application developers ensure regular safety and security testing and be proactive in determining any gaps in security.

If not done in time, such costs will be huge for individuals and the overall business—which depends on digital applications. This will not only cost information and personal data but can also result in huge financial losses.
