The arrest warrant was issued by Judicial Magistrate Malik Aman on Wednesday.

It should be noted that the charges in the case relate to a speech Khan made in which he allegedly threatened the police and a female judge after his close aide Shahbaz Gul was denied bail in the sedition case last year. .

The cricketer-turned-politician has been facing legal troubles since his ouster in a no-confidence vote by the united opposition led by his successor, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in April last year.

A convicted politician can be disqualified for at least five years under the laws of the land.

Khan’s lawyers Ali Bukhari and Faisal Chaudhry appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Sikandar Khan during the hearing at the District and Sessions Court of the federal capital.

Arguing, Chaudhry said the judicial magistrate’s decision to issue a non-bailable arrest warrant was “illegal” as he had ignored certain points in the detailed order of the additional sessions court judge.

Meanwhile, Bukhari maintained that a non-bailable warrant could not be issued because a bailable warrant should have been issued first.

He also read out the order suspending the arrest warrant of the former prime minister in the Tosha Khana case.

He reiterated the security threats to Khan, saying that his appearance in court was risky because the PTI chief had been assassinated and the government had also withdrawn security.

Bukhari added that Khan was not demanding acquittal in the case but legal procedure should be followed.

Claiming that the former prime minister posed serious security threats, Chaudhry said that because of him, the administration had also moved the court to suspend Khan’s non-bailable arrest warrant.

On this, the court issued notices to the parties and suspended the non-bailable arrest warrant till tomorrow.
