ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has advised President Arif Alvi to approve two bills, which have been passed by both houses of Parliament for legislation.
They are: 1- Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure Act, 2023, and Lawyers Welfare and Protection Bill, 2023. These Bills are referred to the President under Article 75 of the Constitution, which reads: [75 .(1)) When a Bill is presented to the President for assent, the President shall, within [ten] days,— (a) assent to the Bill; or (b) in the case of a bill other than a money bill, return the bill. Majlis Shura (Parliament) with a message requesting that the bill or any specific provision thereof be revised and any amendment specified in the message be considered.]
(2) When a bill has been returned by the President to the Majlis Shura (Parliament), it shall be reconsidered by the Majlis Shura (Parliament) in joint session and, if it is again passed, With or without. An amendment, by the Majlis Shura (Parliament), by a majority vote of the members present and voting in both Houses, shall be deemed to have been passed by both Houses of the Constitution and shall be submitted to the President. , and the President shall give his approval within ten days, failing which the approval shall be deemed to have been given.]
(3) When a bill is [or is deemed to be] assent by the President, it shall become a law and shall be called an Act of Majlis Shura (Parliament).
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazir Tarar, who is seen as the author of the pieces of legislation and presented them first in the National Assembly and then in the Senate on Thursday, told JEE News that the bills should be sent to the ministry immediately. given. The Minister said that since the Bills are straightforward and the legislation is for the benefit of the legal community and to streamline the work of the Supreme Court, it is hoped that the President will not hesitate to give his assent immediately. Senator Tarar said that if the President is reluctant to approve such simple bills, the government has powers to pass them through a joint session of both houses. He added that once it is passed by both Houses, it will immediately become part of the books as per the provisions in the Constitution.
