Case has been registered against factory owner after 11 people were killed in ration stampede in Karachi

KARACHI: Police on Saturday registered a case against a factory owner and management staff in connection with a deadly stampede in Karachi in which around a dozen people were killed and scores injured.

At least 11 people were killed and five injured during a stampede inside a factory premises at Nars intersection in Site area of Karachi on Friday, the latest incident in which people lost their lives in search of free food items.

The case was filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Malik Asif Zia at SITE A Police Station under Sections 322 (punishment for involuntary manslaughter), 337H-2 (punishment for causing injury by haste or negligence) and 34 (acts). was entered. The common intention of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) has been done by several people in furtherance.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), during the distribution of ration, the negligence of the factory staff led to the stampede that resulted in the deaths.

It said women and children were killed in the stampede as a security guard opened the factory’s small gate to let in the crowd to collect rations. It added that the factory managers Islam and Jasim had been distributing cash as zakat to the factory on behalf of the factory owner Abdul Khaliq for many years.

The named accused include Khaliq, two managers and seven others.

Police say that eight suspects, including the factory owner and manager, have already been arrested.

The Incident
The incident took place when people gathered at a dyeing factory in the city’s industrial area to collect rations – part of charity drives that Karachiites organize every Ramadan to help the needy.

Rescue and police officials told JEE News that eight women and three children were killed in the incident.

Rescue sources said that six people also fainted during the stampede. According to the police, a large number of people had gathered at the place where the ration was being distributed.
