KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Karachi General Secretary Arslan Taj on Sunday expressed his displeasure over party president Chaudhry Pervez Elahi contacting the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQMP) without taking the local assembly members along.

Talking to JEE News, he said that the party’s Karachi chapter convened a meeting at Insaf House on Saturday afternoon and PTI MNAs and MPAs discussed Elahi’s contacts with the MQMP leadership. .

“PTI Karachi is of the view that MQMP should not be contacted until it withdraws from the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s coalition government at the Centre,” Taj said. He said that PTI Karachi leadership is of the opinion that MQMP has been supporting those who violated the constitution for the last one year. Therefore, the PTI Karachi leadership should not be consulted without taking it on board.

He said that talks with MQMP are of no political benefit as it is part of a conspiracy against the PTI government. “We have informed our party leadership about our decision. We understand that MQMP is still part of the government. However, an MQMP spokesperson told JEE News that he was not in a position to confirm whether MQMP convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui was approached by Elahi. He said that if there is any progress, the party will issue a detailed statement regarding the contacts between Elahi and Siddiqui.
