The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “I want to congratulate the entire nation that the Supreme Court buried the doctrine of necessity today.”

The Supreme Court, in its verdict issued in the election delay case, termed the election body’s decision to hold elections on October 8 as ‘unconstitutional’ and directed to hold elections in Punjab on May 14.

Reacting to the development, the PTI leader said that the sanctity of the Constitution has been restored by the decision of the Supreme Court. He said that all the conspiratorial forces that have created obstacles in the way of democratic and constitutional system have been buried alive.

Qureshi added, “Today is an important moment in the history of Pakistan.

He added that this order has reassured the nation that there are still some people who are not affected or intimidated by threats.

Meanwhile, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the Supreme Court’s decision is a decision on the rights of every Pakistani citizen.
