Umar Gul will remain as Pakistan’s bowling coach for New Zealand series.

ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan speedster Umar Gul, who is the interim bowling coach of the national squad, will continue to serve in the post alongside head coach Abdul Rehman for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

Both coaches will be with the squad from the start of the national camp on April 7 until the end of the series against New Zealand.

Both Gul and Rahman were part of the Pakistan coaching staff for the recent away series against Afghanistan. Pakistan batting coach Andrew Potik and Grant Bradburn (Mickey Arthur’s coach or deputy) are likely to join the team on April 11.

Former South Africa women’s team coach Potak, who has played just five balls in Test cricket, will replace Muhammad Yusuf as the national team’s batting coach.

Experts have termed Yusuf as a quality coach who has excellent batting technique and is dedicated to imparting batting tips to youngsters.

National team coaching consultant Mickey Arthur is expected to sign a four-year contract with the PCB after April 19 along with his coaches.

“As PCB top officials have already given verbal assurance to Arthur & Co. Both parties will now formally sign the agreement. Hopefully, Arthur who joins the team in the middle of the home series against New Zealand. The selected coaching panel will sign the agreement during the upcoming tour,” a PCB source said.

Arthur, who has already signed a four-year deal with Derbyshire County, is expected to get a few weeks off from county commitments to be part of the national team on April 18.

By this time, Pakistan and New Zealand will have already played three out of four T20Is.
