Jaya Bachchan revealed on the season finale episode of What The Hell Navya that she was happier being a wife and mother than an actor after marriage. Clarifying her statement, she said she prioritized her family and it was not a ‘sacrifice’.
Navya talks about the sacrifices women have to make for their families, and Jaya is not happy with the word.
“I don’t think sacrifice is the right word (for married women) that I would use. I would say you’re putting someone else’s needs, feelings and thoughts before your own. That’s not sacrifice, I think. When you do something from within yourself, it is not sacrifice. You know that you are an educated girl, you are an intelligent girl, why are you saying sacrifice?” Jaya said.
She added, “I remember when I stopped working and everyone said, ‘Oh he sacrificed his career for his marriage and kids’, it wasn’t like that. I became a mother and a wife. Karr was really happy. I enjoyed more the role I was getting to do (in films), which is a repetition of the same thing. It was not a sacrifice at all.”
