WaBetaInfo reported that Meta-owned WhatsApp is rolling out another feature to ensure users have a seamless experience by adding the option to add captions to forwarded images, videos, GIFs and documents.
According to the app tracking website, the instant messaging app is rolling out a new update called “Description for Forwarded Messages” to some beta testers.
“This feature is important because removing captions from forwarded media can cause confusion for the person who receives the message,” the website reported.

WhatsApp has submitted a new update, bringing the version to 2.23.8.22. The website reported that while the feature is available to some beta testers, not all accounts can immediately access it.
As of this update, you can remove the existing caption and add a custom description for a forwarded image.

This feature is useful when the existing caption doesn’t describe the image correctly or you want to add a different description.
“When you remove an existing caption and add your own, the new description will be sent as a separate message so recipients know it’s not related to the original message,” WaBetaInfo said.
By using this feature, WhatsApp users can provide additional context to forwarded media. It allows people to explain why they pursue media and share their thoughts, opinions or feelings about media.
However, at this time, those with the update may face issues while viewing status updates and downloading videos.
