Federal Minister Mufti Abdul Shakoor died in a road accident

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Mufti Abdul Shakoor died in a road accident in the federal capital, Islamabad Police said on Saturday.

Police told JEE News that the incident took place around Iftar (evening) when the federal minister was on his way to Secretariat Chowk from a local hotel.

In a statement, the capital’s police said the minister was driving his car when a Toyota Hilux Revo – carrying five people – hit his car on the driver’s side.

Police say that the federal minister was shifted to the polyclinic hospital in the federal capital, but he succumbed to his injuries due to severe internal bleeding.

According to the police, senior police officers have reached the spot and arrested the people in the vehicle that vandalized the Federal Minister’s vehicle. Two out of five people are injured.

Inspector General of Islamabad Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and other federal ministers also reached the hospital, where Shakur breathed his last.

Home Minister Rana Sanaullah directed the capital’s police to ensure a “thorough investigation” into the crash.

“Initial information suggests that Mufti Shakoor died of head injuries,” Islamabad IG Khan told reporters outside the hospital.

A JUIF spokesperson said in a statement that Mufti Shakoor’s funeral prayers will be offered tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 pm at Lakki Marwat and he will be laid to rest in his hometown.

Alam Deen was elected Member of National Assembly (MNA) from NA-51 on the Muttahida Majlis Aam (MMA) ticket in the 2018 general elections.

Condolence
President of the country Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed his grief over the demise of the federal minister and paid tribute to his services for inter-faith harmony.

In his condolence statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Shakur was a “practical scholar, an ideological political activist and a decent human being”.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the deceased federal minister was one of the ideological leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F).

Paying tribute to him, the Prime Minister said, “Mufti Abdul Shakoor performed his duties as Minister of Religious Affairs with diligence, sincerity and honesty”.

Co-Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari expressed grief over the death and prayed for the forgiveness of the Federal Minister. Senator Sherry Rehman said that she stands with his family in their hour of grief.

Sanaullah also expressed grief over Shakur’s death and said JUIF has lost a sincere politician.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Faisal Javed also condoled with the federal minister and prayed for the deceased.
