ISLAMABAD: Caretaker administration in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain in place till the elections and the establishment of elected governments in the provinces.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) sources told JEE News on Saturday evening that no period has been fixed for the appointment of the two governments. After the dissolution of the assemblies, the constitutional process was strictly restricted in the election and appointment of the two provincial governments.
In response to a question, ECP Secretary Umar Hayat Khan said that the caretaker governments were established following the procedure laid down in the constitution. It is understood that they will continue until new elections are held and new governments take office.
He said that as far as the question of expiry of ninety days is concerned, it has nothing to do with the fixed term of the government. No new notification need be issued by any provincial government. Sources added that the commission was looking into the functioning and performance of the caretaker governments and since they were appointed, not many complaints had been received against them.
