ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Constitution has its roots in the Parliament and according to the universally recognized concept, the Judiciary can only interpret the law and cannot rewrite it.
“Nowhere in the world does a court issue an injunction against a piece of legislation that is still pending,” the Prime Minister said while addressing the launch of the 1973 Constitution mobile application.
Shahbaz Sharif urged the judiciary to re-evaluate its role and become the protector of the constitution, saying that now is the time for the state institutions to unite to uphold the constitution and put the national interest first.
The Prime Minister said that the 1973 Constitution was the result of the hard work of politicians from all backgrounds, who reached a consensus in framing the holy document. He recalled that veteran politicians of his time, including Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Mufti Mahmood, Khan Abdul Wali Khan and many others, overcame their political differences and drafted a constitution that provided a framework for federation. Acted as a binding force.
He said that although mistakes were made by politicians in the past, now is the time to correct them, adding that lessons have been learned from the mistakes in trying to get Pakistan out of its problems. He said that great people learn from their mistakes and uphold the national interest.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the government assumed power in a difficult time, but will not hesitate to protect the state and the constitution. The Prime Minister also described the decision to include the 1973 Constitution in the curriculum of schools and colleges as noteworthy. He said that the young generation will learn about the Constitution and there will be healthy academic discussions in educational institutions.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the Members of Parliament, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for launching the mobile application of the 1973 Constitution.
In connection with the golden jubilee of the country’s constitution 1973, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has developed a mobile application with the support of NADRA. This application will serve as a digital medium to help create awareness among the general public about the 1973 Constitution.
Meanwhile, a high-level consultative meeting of the ruling coalition was held here on Wednesday evening under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which the overall situation of the country and the future strategy on constitutional and legal issues were considered.
In the meeting, after consulting on their earlier stated position of holding general elections on the same day under caretaker governments, it was unanimously decided to call a meeting of the leaders of the ruling coalition after Eid-ul-Fitr to consult with all political parties at home and abroad. can be done Parliament can be taken to the next stage and reach a consensus to finalize the procedure in this regard.
It was clarified in the meeting that along with the formation of the committee by the Prime Minister, consultation is going on for holding elections within the ruling parties while the meeting between Chairman of People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was also held. It was part of that process. In the press statement issued after the meeting, it was said that Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Siraj-ul-Haq’s meeting with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif was also a part of the consultation process.
It was reiterated in the meeting that the ruling coalition believes in the constitution, democracy and the constitutional right of the people to vote and fully believes in holding elections. As politicians, we have not closed the doors of dialogue to anyone, and no democrat can do that.
“Right from the offer of the charter of the economy to every stage till now, the coalition government had expressed its willingness for a serious and meaningful dialogue within the constitutional parameters. Ensuring free, fair and impartial elections was a basic constitutional requirement,” the press statement said.
The meeting reiterated the commitment to ensure all the requirements of the elections so that the election results are acceptable to all the political parties and the country does not face any political instability situation that would lead to the country’s And irreparable damage to economic interests.
In another development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif telephoned Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Sabah and conveyed his best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Prime Minister recalled the historical brotherly relations between the two countries and reiterated Pakistan’s desire to strengthen the brotherly relations by transforming them into mutually beneficial economic relations. Prime Minister Nawaf warmly responded to Prime Minister’s Eid greetings and expressed good wishes for the people of Pakistan.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The two leaders agreed to celebrate it in a befitting manner with a view to further strengthen bilateral relations in all areas of mutual interest. Also, the prime minister called on Sultan Haitham bin Tariq bin Taimur Al-Saeed of Oman to extend his best wishes and warm greetings on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing said in a press release.
The Prime Minister highlighted the immense potential for strengthening brotherly ties, especially in the strategic, economic and trade sectors. Referring to the historic brotherly relations between Pakistan and Oman, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need to enhance institutional and economic ties between the two maritime neighbours.
The Sultan warmly responded to the Prime Minister’s Eid greetings and expressed his best wishes for the people of Pakistan. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to work together to further expand bilateral relations to achieve common goals and aspirations of the people of both countries.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif here on Wednesday and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The overall political situation of the country was discussed in the meeting. The Defense Minister also briefed the Prime Minister about the issues related to his ministry.
Similarly, Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and presented him with a check of Rs 80 lakh donation for the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for the earthquake victims of Turkey and Syria. The minister presented a donation check on behalf of the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif was also present.
