A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar, on April 27 sought a progress report on the April 26 meeting of political leaders.
These directions of the Supreme Court came after the PPP and Muslim League (N) assured the Supreme Court on April 20 that they would sit with the PTI and try to find a solution on the election date.
Talking during the TV show, Kaira said that the court has different methods while the political parties have to find a way out of the possibilities.
Expressing anger over the Supreme Court’s order, he said: “It is a matter for political forces, they should do it.”
Elaborating on the talks between the two leaders, Kaira said Qaiser confirmed his participation in the meeting of political leaders on April 26, immediately after the Eid holidays.
In response to a question, the leader of the People’s Party said that Shah Mehmood Qureshi should ask Qaiser about the contact.
Qureshi had claimed a day earlier that the leadership of the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – an alliance of 13 political parties – had not contacted him.
“No doubt there is bitterness, but it has been created by Khan,” the PPP leader said, adding that he was trying to remove it.
He further said that everyone is convinced that elections should be held on the same day across the country.
The leader of the People’s Party was of the view that the establishment and the court should not interfere in the negotiations between the political forces.
‘Disagreement’ among ruling allies
Sources told JEE News that the ruling coalition blocked talks with the PTI on April 18 after Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) tried to bring the two sides to the negotiating table.
After Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif convened a meeting on the country’s political situation and Jamaat-e-Islami’s negotiation efforts, a meeting of PDM allies was held in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the parties in the coalition government differed on talks with the opposition party as some felt that PTI Chairman Imran Khan could not be trusted while others insisted that political forces should not close the channels for talks. .
Sources said that People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari insisted on talks with the opposition, supported by Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Balochistan National Party, Balochistan Awami Party, Chaudhry Salik, and Mohsin Dawar. have been.
Bilawal said closing the door to negotiations was against his party’s principles and “undemocratic”.
He said that time is needed to take the path of negotiations and take the country out of the crisis.
But representatives of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamhuri Watan Party (JWP) rejected Bilawal’s opinion saying that it is not in the interest of the alliance to negotiate with the ousted prime minister. He was removed from office by a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly in April last year.
Speedy consultation after Eid
Earlier today, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq – who is trying to bring the two sides to the table to steer the country out of crisis – claimed that political contact would intensify after Eid-ul-Fitr.
He further said that both Prime Minister Shehbaz and Imran Khan realize that the situation is bad, adding that their party has a one-point agenda, elections should be held across the country.
