KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and all commercial banks will remain closed for public transactions on May 1 – Labor Day, according to the central bank.
Taking to Twitter, the central bank said: “#SBP will be closed on 1st May 2023 on the occasion of #LabourDay.”

Apart from all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Micro Finance Banks (MFBs) will also remain closed for public dealing on the said date.
The world celebrates Labor Day, also known as May Day, on May 1 every year to show solidarity with workers and respect the rights of the working class.
The purpose of observing this day is to initiate measures to provide employment protection to laborers and industrial workers against any form of exploitation.
Earlier today, the Sindh government had announced a public holiday on May 1 on the occasion of Labor Day.
In this regard, a notification was also issued by the Chief Secretary Sindh, according to which all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous institutions will remain closed on May 1, which will take place on Monday.
“Government of Sindh is pleased to announce a public holiday for all offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under administrative jurisdiction on the occasion of Labor Day on 1st May 2023 (Monday) throughout Sindh. Government of Sindh control of, except for essential services,” the notification read.
