Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj Ul Haq has said that it would be better if Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also takes a vote of confidence from the people.

The JI leader made these remarks while commenting on the vote of confidence received by the Prime Minister from the National Assembly. With 180 MNAs fully confident in his leadership, Prime Minister Shehbaz won a vote of confidence from the National Assembly earlier today.

Haq – who was instrumental in bringing the current government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to the table – stressed the need for general elections to end the ongoing political crisis and pull the country out of the quagmire.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government and the PTI finally sat down at the negotiating table today to discuss the date of elections following Supreme Court orders.

Sources told JEE News that in the first round of talks – which lasted for nearly two hours – in Committee Room No. 3 of the Parliament House, the two sides briefed each other on the position of their top leadership. The second meeting will be held tomorrow.

While talking to the journalist, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami said that for the success of the negotiations, the parties have to show flexibility.

He said that Parliament and Judiciary are face to face.

Haq said that everyone is interpreting the constitution themselves. He said that all the constitutional, political and economic crises are only affecting the people.

Stressing the need for consensus among all political forces, the JI leader said that the date of elections cannot be fixed at the whim of any party.

He added that “consensus elections are the only solution [to the ongoing crisis in the country.

Haq said that judges are not on the same page as legislators, adding that the matter should be left to politicians instead of taking hasty decisions.

The JI leader said that his party had initially demanded that a full court bench be constituted to hear the election case.

Haq said that judiciary, establishment and Election Commission of Pakistan should remain neutral in elections.

Emphasizing the need for free and fair elections in the country, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami said that in the past the institutions did not play their role according to the constitution. He said that his party has submitted a road map to the Supreme Court regarding the elections.
