According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is rolling out a voice message transcription feature to improve user experience, with some beta iOS testers available.
WhatsApp news tracker announced: “After installing the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.9.0.70 update available on the TestFlight app, we can confirm that WhatsApp has finally rolled out this feature to some beta testers. doing!”

The screenshot shows that the transcription is added to the message bubble as a voice note is sent.
This feature is enabled by default but if you don’t want your voice messages to be transcribed for any reason, you can disable this feature by going to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcripts.
“Note that this feature always preserves end-to-end encryption because transcription is performed locally on the user’s device using language packs.”
“For this reason, the ability to copy messages is only available to some users on newer versions of iOS, as it uses the latest APIs provided by iOS 16 that allow the app to run natively on the user’s device. “Allows voice message processing, without the need to transfer the message to external servers.”
The transcription feature also allows users to search for information within a message as when a voice note is transcribed, the text is indexed, making it searchable.
“The ability to copy voice notes is available to some beta testers who install the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app, and it’s rolling out to even more people in the coming weeks.”
