Islamabad: Today (Monday) Labor Day is being celebrated all over the world to show solidarity with the workers and for their rights. Also known as May Day, the day is observed every year on May 1 to celebrate the work and achievements of workers around the world and initiate measures to provide them with job protection against any exploitation.
Labor Day is being celebrated in Pakistan like all over the world. In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the key role of workers in economic development.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Prime Minister is committed to improving the working and living conditions of the workers by providing better housing, education facilities and health care for them and their families. He reiterated the government’s commitment to welfare.
He said that the present government is committed to ensure the fruits of economic development which can be transformed into prosperity for all sections of the population, especially laborers and laborers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further said that the International Workers’ Day reminds us of the sacrifices of the workers who laid down their lives while tirelessly fighting for their rights.
“The day symbolizes the sanctity and dignity of labor and at the same time it was a recognition of the importance of labor and workers for their centrality in the economic development of the country.
“Our great religion of Islam emphasizes the principles of social justice, equality and respect for people’s rights. Allah Ta’ala and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have commanded us to fulfill the rights of workers and this basic duty. Do not neglect to perform
He said that he found many inspiring examples of the greatness of labor and respect for the rights of the working class in the life of the Prophet.
Taking into consideration the high rate of inflation and other economic challenges, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the government has increased the minimum wage of workers from Rs 17,500 to Rs 25,000 per month.
He added that the government aims to develop an automated, integrated system for labor welfare agencies to ensure transparency and reduce delays in providing relief to laborers and workers.

Meanwhile, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that this year, the nation is celebrating Labor Day with the determination to reaffirm the commitment to the dignity of labor and pay tribute to the brave and heroic struggle of workers for their basic rights. will be served.

We believe that workers and employers are partners in the production process and their cooperation is essential for industrial efficiency which ultimately leads to socio-economic development of the country,” the President said.

He lamented that despite contributing to economic prosperity, workers are subjected to unsafe working environment, unfair labor practices, poor wages, lack of job security, harassment of women at workplace, Many problems such as long working hours and arbitrary dismissals are faced.
“The workforce is the backbone of our economy and it is imperative to take steps to protect their rights by strictly enforcing labor laws to discourage unfair labor practices.”
He highlighted the need to provide modern skill sets to Pakistan’s “huge labor and youth power” to propel the economy to rapid growth.
The President hoped that the federal and provincial governments would continue to work for their welfare as well as provide them with marketable skills.
He also urged the workers of the country to play their role in making the country economically strong and dynamic and employers should ensure the protection of the rights of the workers and work for their welfare.
