ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday sought records of 190 million pounds (Rs 67.65 billion) from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) and to summon the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau next week. During the PAC meeting, Chairman Noor Alam expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of NAB and remarked that false cases were made in the past and now real cases are not being investigated. Meanwhile, while reviewing the audit report of the Ministry of Industries and Production for the financial year 2020-21, the PAC directed an audit of the prices of urea fertilizer companies and asked the Office of the Auditor General of Pakistan to carry out the audit in collaboration with NAB. The secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production told the committee that gas prices will be revised for the fertilizer sector. Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, the special invitee of the meeting, demanded an investigation on the price at which the dealers are getting fertilizer and at what price the farmer is buying it.

The meeting also reviewed the government’s free flour scheme and Noor Alam directed the Auditor General of Pakistan’s office to audit the scheme.

The matter related to the car manufacturing companies was also discussed and PAC expressed strong displeasure over the non-attendance of the committee meeting of the chief executives of the car manufacturing companies. The PAC chairman warned them not to force the NA panel to take further action against them.
