PESHAWAR: Acting Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) Justice Musrat Hilali was notified as Chief Justice of the High Provincial Court on Monday.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, she will be the Chief Justice of PHC from the date of her oath. After her appointment as the regular Chief Justice, Justice Musarat Hilali became the country’s second woman to be appointed as the Chief Justice of a High Court – the first being Justice Syeda Tahir Safdar, who is the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court. . .
On April 1, the PHC got its first female Chief Justice as Justice Musrat Hilali took oath of office. After the retirement of PHC Chief Justice Qaiser Rasheed Khan on March 30, Justice Nurul Amin Khan, the senior-most judge of the court, was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice. But his position was only for one day.
After the retirement of Justice Nurul Amin Khan on March 31, a day after she assumed the post of Acting Chief Justice, Justice Musarat Hilali was appointed as the first woman Acting Chief Justice of PHC. President Arif Alvi appointed him as Acting Chief Justice until the appointment of a regular Chief Justice.
On April 14, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, in a meeting chaired by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, unanimously recommended the name of Justice Musrat Hilali for appointment as the regular Chief Justice of PHC. The Commission sent the recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee for approval.
Born on August 8, 1961 in Peshawar, Justice Musrat Hilali obtained his law degree from Khyber Law College, University of Peshawar and was admitted as a District Court Advocate in 1983, High Court Advocate in 1988 and Supreme Court Advocate. Court of Pakistan in 2006.
Meanwhile, a delegation of newly elected officials of Prosecution Officers Welfare Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa met the Chief Justice. He administered the oath to the newly elected officials of the association. The Chief Justice congratulated him and assured that the issues related to the prosecution department will be resolved together with all the stockholders.
