The federal cabinet on Friday rejected a proposal to impose emergency in the country to deal with the political crisis, unrest and violent protests that arose after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9. .

Violent protests erupted across the country soon after the former prime minister was taken into custody by the Rangers at the Islamabad High Court (IHC). At least nine people were killed in violence-related incidents in Peshawar and other cities. Hundreds of injured were brought to hospitals in different cities. Meanwhile, troops were called in in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to deal with the situation.

Regarding the inside story of the cabinet meeting, the sources said that Defense Minister Khawaja Asif proposed imposing emergency but the cabinet members who belong to Pakistan People’s Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) and Balochistan National Party. Parti Mangal (BNP-M) opposed the idea.

The three main parties of the ruling coalition were of the view that the imposition of emergency cannot solve the issues and it will further discredit the country.

Cabinet members strongly opposed the internet blackout in most parts of the country, saying it was doing more harm than good.

During the meeting, Chief Law Minister Nazir Tarar drew the ire of the participants for filing “weak cases” against the PTI chairman.

Huddle also vowed that if contempt of court proceedings are initiated against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the entire Parliament will stand with him.

‘No leniency for those involved in violence’

Law Minister Tarar briefed the meeting about the legal arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case and his sudden release on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Briefing the meeting, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that PTI workers’ attack on sensitive national institutions, buildings, Jinnah House, desecration of martyrs’ memorial, fire, obstruction of national broadcasting, blocking of Swat Motorway, Radio Pakistan and other official He condemned the burning of private buildings. Violence against government officials and civilians, even burning ambulances after removing patients.

The security czar said that such violent acts cannot be called constitutional and democratic protests but are acts of terrorism and anti-state activities which cannot be tolerated.

The cabinet paid tribute to the people of Pakistan for showing indifference to the arrest of the mastermind of Rs 60 billion corruption, anti-state activities and terrorism and instead supported the constitution and law.

It also paid tribute to the armed forces, Pakistan Rangers, police and law enforcement agencies who risked their lives to protect the lives and property of the people and the government during the firing by armed miscreants.

The meeting expressed solidarity with the law enforcement agencies and made it clear that they stand by their side to take action against those who spread lawlessness.

The cabinet also expressed concern over Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandyal’s “interference” in the “open and shut” corruption and corruption case that led to Imran Khan’s lawful arrest.
