In his late Sunday night tweet, Imran Khan said, “So now the complete London plan is over.” While I was inside the prison, using the pretext of torture, they assumed the roles of judge, jury and executioner. Now the plan is to humiliate me by putting Bushra Begum in jail and use the Sedition Act to keep me in jail for the next ten years.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan stepped up his criticism of the army, accusing the army chief of holding a “personal grudge” against him and ordering his arrest and a crackdown on his party.
“It’s personal. It has nothing to do with the national interest,” he told British media in an interview at his home in Lahore after a dramatic week in which he was nearly arraigned at the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. 100 paramilitary officers arrested and kept in police custody. In connection with the land corruption case. “Undoubtedly, the hand of the army is behind my arrest,” he said. Pakistan is now run by the Army Chief. The army chief has cracked down on us.
Khan alleged that his arrest, and that of seven senior members of his PTI party, was a sign of the army’s unprecedented power. Army is above law. Khan said that the ISI is above the law. “And if you have someone above the law, you land in the law of the jungle. They can pick people up, detain people, make people disappear. They can influence judges. They try. They control the media. There is no accountability to the institution. It is not democratic.”
Khan alleged that the top brass had “vested interests” to ensure that I did not return to power. “They are panicked. They know we will sweep the elections, so they are looking for an excuse to put me in jail.
Khan’s political career has been intertwined with the military establishment. After more than a decade in the political opposition as PTI leader, it was not until he received the support of the military that Khan was seen as a viable leader. He was elected prime minister in 2018 amid allegations that the military had rigged polls in his favor – a charge denied by Khan. For the first two years of his rule, Khan and the army worked together in a “hybrid government”, with the army holding powerful positions and being seen to be carrying out mass shootings. However, Khan resented the military’s control, accusing them of blackmailing his government, while Khan’s misguided policies, termination of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund, and repeated criticism of the United States led the military to Disappointed. Khan was ousted in a no-confidence vote, which he accused of orchestrating the then chief of the armed forces, General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The former prime minister has made a series of explosive but often unsubstantiated allegations since his ouster, including allegations that the US government colluded with the military to topple him. The US government strongly denied the allegations and a leaked audio recording showed Khan allegedly discussing how to “game” diplomatic communications to make it appear that the US had interfered. Who is
Khan further alleged that the then Army Chief Bajwa hired Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former ambassador to Washington, to lobby against Khan in the US. In response, Haqqani told his Guardian that he had sent a legal defamation notice to Khan, asking him to desist from his “lies”. Haqqani said that Imran Khan does not feel the need to present any proof of his allegations.
Khan’s close ties to the military have led critics to question his anti-military stance, alleging that it is a means to weaken the army’s leadership and gain greater control over the institution, particularly But if they come back to power. Khan denied this. He said that we do not want anyone’s support. “We want them to remain neutral. We just want free and fair elections.
In another interview, Imran Khan expressed deep concern over the current state of democracy in Pakistan, lamenting that it was at an “all-time low”. After being granted respite by the courts, the former prime minister expressed his confidence in the judiciary, calling it the country’s “only hope” to restore people’s rights and freedoms. “Democracy is at an all-time low. Our only hope is the judiciary,” the PTI chairman said.
He said that the government is afraid of the elections and they are afraid of being wiped out by the PTI in the elections. Showing the extent of the hostility of the political environment, Khan claimed that the ruling coalition was ready to hold elections only if they were imprisoned or killed.
The PTI chief said there were two assassination attempts on his life, raising concerns about his safety and security. When asked about incidents of violence during his party workers’ protests after his arrest on May 9, the cricketer-turned-politician was quick to condemn all forms of violence.
Expressing his dismay at the brutal treatment by everyone involved, he said the excessive force used during his arrest left a lasting impression on him. The way they beat everyone and arrested me was disturbing and surprising. Despite these challenges, Khan said he has shown unwavering determination and readiness to face imprisonment once again. He said that I am ready to go to jail again.
