Britain has agreed to send hundreds of long-range missiles and armed drones to Ukraine.
This is on top of Britain’s decision to supply Kiev with Storm Shadow cruise missiles last week.
The move means the UK is ahead of any other country in supplying weapons with the potential to tip the battlefield in Ukraine’s favour.
Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky met Britain’s Rishi Sink as part of his tour of Western allies.
Ukraine continues to prepare for a highly anticipated counterattack against Russian forces.
Last week, Mr Zelensky told JEE News his country needed more weapons before attacking.
On Monday, Ukraine’s president held nearly two-hour talks with Mr Sink in Checkers, near London.
He suddenly arrived on British soil after a whirlwind tour of Western Europe that also took him to Rome, Berlin and Paris.
Mr Zelensky said Ukraine and the UK were “true partners”.
The new missiles could be used to destroy Russian positions on occupied Ukrainian territory.
If Ukraine can destroy Russian command centers, logistics hubs and ammunition depots in occupied territory, it may prove impossible for Moscow to continue resupplying its front-line troops in these locations.
Ukraine successfully did this last year in Kherson, forcing the Russians to retreat almost without a fight. It will now be hoped that this process will be repeated with the help of Western-supplied munitions.
Mr. Zelensky said he had discussed the supply of Western fighter jets with Mr. Sink.
The Ukrainian leader added that the new jets were a very important topic for us because we cannot control the sky.
“We’ve talked about it and I see that in the near term you’re going to hear some, I think, very important decisions, but we have to do some more work on it,” he said. “
Britain has no plans to send fighter jets to Ukraine, according to the Prime Minister’s official spokesman.
But Mr Sink said Britain would make up “a significant part of the coalition” that would provide fighter jet support.
The prime minister said that the supply of fighter jets is not a straightforward matter.
The Ukrainian Air Force trains its pilots on F-16s, which are not used by the RAF.
Number 10 said initial training for Ukrainian pilots would begin this summer, alongside British efforts to work with other countries to supply Ukraine with F-16s.
