Naila Kayani became the first Pakistani woman to summit six 8,000-meter high mountains after successfully scaling Mount Lhotse in Nepal on Tuesday morning.

Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world at 8,516 meters, after Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga.

Naila Kayani achieved this feat two days after climbing the world’s highest mountain, Everest.

Apart from Kayani, Pakistani mountaineer Sajid Ali Sadpara also climbed Everest. However, Sidpara became the first Pakistani to summit the mountain without “supplementary oxygen and personal Sherpa assistance” with the feat.

Apart from Lhotse, the five other 8000m mountains that Kayani has climbed include Everest, K2, Annapurna, Gasherbaram I and Gasherbaram II.

Kayani’s expedition organizers in Nepal confirmed that she reached the summit of Lhotse at 8:13 am local time this morning.

According to Karr Haidari of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Kayani is the first Pakistani woman to climb Lhotse and the fastest woman in the country to summit six peaks above 8000 meters.

Mount Annapurna rescue

Kayani was among two Pakistani climbers who were rescued on their way to Mount Annapurna last month. He was accompanied by the world’s youngest mountaineer, Shahrooz Kashif, who climbed the 8,091-meter peak in Nepal.

A day after reaching the top of the mountain, both climbers were rescued from the summit after bad weather interrupted their descent.

By climbing Annapurna, Kayani became the first woman from a South Asian country to achieve the feat.
