Peshawar: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act.

The High Court suspended the ongoing detention orders issued by the Deputy Commissioners of various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under 3 MPOs and fixed more than 150 cases for hearing.

After the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, several people were arrested for attacking government buildings, police and army institutions during the violent protests. However, several other PTI leaders and activists were also arrested under the MPO.

Earlier, more than 150 PTI leaders and activists moved PHC by submitting petitions against the proceedings under 3 MPOs. The court had reserved its verdict in the case.

On Thursday, a division bench comprising Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah of the PHC ordered the suspension of the orders of the DCs and the release of the persons imprisoned under the MPO after providing bail bonds to the district administration. Ordered.

Over the past several days, the police have arrested more than 1,400 people, mostly PTI workers, who attacked government and private buildings, check posts, ambulances and other vehicles during the party’s protest rallies. on charges of involvement in violent attacks. It is learned that the police are still conducting raids to arrest all those involved in the violent attacks as well as burning and vandalizing check posts and other institutions during the protests.

A police official said policemen were instructed to raid hajras (men’s guest houses) as well as keep policewomen in raid parties.

“The current arrests are being made on the basis of documentary evidence of involvement in attacks on public and private properties during the two-day protests. The investigation teams are identifying the accused through the footage available and their details are being raided. have been handed over to the parties,” said a senior police official.

A total of seven people lost their lives while more than 106 civilians and 36 police personnel were injured during violent protests by PTI workers in Peshawar and other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

One more person died on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to eight, reports said. Five of them died in Peshawar, two in Kohat and one in Lower Dir.
