ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed has reiterated that the anti-corruption watchdog will remain completely apolitical and work in accordance with the law to avoid unnecessary controversies. will
He said that NAB was involved in unnecessary controversies in the past due to which it lost focus and reputation.
“My first effort will be to restore the image of NAB as a fair, just and impartial institution,” he said during a function organized here at NAB Rawalpindi regarding the distribution of compensation checks to victims of various scams.
The NAB chief expressed concern over the country’s declining status in the Global Corruption Perceptions Index and stressed the need to work together to eradicate the scourge of corruption.
He appreciated the patience of the victims while waiting for the return of the looted money and assured that every possible effort would be made to complete such cases in the shortest possible time. Moreover, he also appreciated the officers for working diligently in recovering the looted money.
He also reminded the NAB officers and staff that the anti-corruption watchdog has no favorites and works strictly on the principles of fairness and impartiality.
“All accused deserve courtesy and civility and treat them as you wish”, he remarked.
While answering the questions of the employees, Chairman NAB said that steps are being taken to make the working environment as comfortable as possible by solving the problems of the employees, especially the women staff as soon as possible. He also emphasized that the rotation policy will be fully implemented.
Earlier, NAB Rawalpindi Director General Mirza Irfan Baig said in his welcome speech at the ceremony that his office has recovered three and a half billion rupees in five major cases of cheating the public, of which 27 million rupees have been distributed among the victims today. are being done.
He said that the recoveries include 130 million rupees in fake accounts of Sindh Tractors Scheme which were handed over to the provincial government, 500 million rupees from Askaria Town Housing Scheme, 1.9 billion rupees from National House Building Development Corporation scheme and others.
