PTI chief requests Supreme Court to stop crackdown, mass exodus of leaders

ISLAMABAD: Amid the mass exodus of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, its chief Imran Khan has ordered a crackdown on party workers under Article 11 of the Supreme Court against the deployment of military forces across the country except Sindh. The petition was filed through advocate Hamid Khan in view of the May 9 vandalism, in which Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other leaders of the ruling coalition including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Asif Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Maulana Fazlur Rehman. A party has been made.

Additionally, the petition also requested the Supreme Court to take action against the “forced separation” of PTI leaders as many leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari and others had defected from Khan over the May 9 riots. .

It further asked the apex court to “conduct an impartial judicial inquiry into the events surrounding the horrific and heartbreaking events of May 9, 2023”.

On Monday, the PTI had filed a similar petition in the Supreme Court challenging the deployment of armed forces under Article 245, alleging that it would allow the Imran Khan-led party. being used for “political [method] targeting” and the trial of civilians. The May 9 arson charge under military courts is a “flagrant violation of due process” and Pakistan’s commitment to international law.

The petition was filed by PTI Additional Secretary General Umar Ayub Khan on behalf of the party and sought the Supreme Court’s intervention under Article 184(3).
