Wicketkeeper Jimmy Pearson was included in Australia’s squad for the Ashes against England on Friday as cover for Josh Inglis, who will be home for the birth of his first child after the opening Test.
The Queensland glue men will meet the team in London before the second Test at Lord’s from June 28 when Inglis will return to Perth.
“Pearson has trained with the squad in the past and was part of the Brisbane mini-camp last week,” Cricket Australia said, adding that Inglis, who is back-up wicket-keeper to Alex Carey, will return at a later date. Will join the squad again.
Pearson has impressed domestically and at Australia A level with his wicketkeeping, aggressive batting and leadership as captain of Queensland and Brisbane Heat.
The first Test of the five-match series will begin at Edgbaston on June 16. Earlier, Australia will face India in the final of the World Test Championship at the Oval from June 7.
