On the occasion of Youm-e-Takbeer (May 28), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s defense, sovereignty, national dignity and freedom are above all else for the nation and no one dares to take them away. A clear declaration of “no compromise on the sovereignty and defense of the country”.
The nation is celebrating Youm-e-Takbeer today (Sunday) with fervor, a historic day when the country conducted successful nuclear tests in the Chagai Hills 25 years ago. These experiments made Pakistan the seventh nuclear weapon in the world and the first country in the Islamic world, which strengthened its position in the region and restored the balance of power.
Youm-e-Takbeer is considered a red letter day in the history of Pakistan which ensured regional stability through invincible defense capabilities and balance of power.
In his message on the occasion of this day, the Prime Minister said that this day is a reminder that the nation will not hesitate to make any sacrifice for defense, unity and national interests.
He urged the nation to move forward with the same spirit to achieve economic independence and self-reliance that is displayed on Youm-e-Takbeer.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the patriotism of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who laid the foundations of Pakistan’s nuclear program, for carrying out nuclear tests despite all external pressures.
The Prime Minister also appreciated the services of Pakistan and Dr. Abdul Qadir Khan and all those scientists, engineers and individuals who played their role in achieving nuclear deterrence. He also thanked Saudi Arabia and other brotherly countries for helping Pakistan during the economic sanctions imposed due to its nuclear programme.

The nuke tests
Pakistan’s nuclear tests not only expressed the nation’s determination to protect the country’s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty, but also expressed its desire to maintain the strategic balance in South Asia.
India tested its “device” for the first time in 1974, prompting Pakistan to accelerate its nuclear program with renewed determination.
