ISLAMABAD: 10 people were killed and 26 injured in an avalanche in Astor district of Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday. According to DIG Police Tufail Mir of Diamer Astor Division, a control room has been set up in the district to facilitate rescue operations and evacuate people buried under the debris. An army helicopter and a team of doctors, ambulance and rescue teams have reached the spot. Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Khalid Khurshid Khan has expressed regret over the incident and directed the authorities to start relief operations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep sorrow and regret over the loss of precious lives due to the avalanche in Shunter Top area of Astoor. He directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical aid to the injured.
