Earthquake tremors were felt in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir, causing people to come out of their homes and high-rise buildings in panic.
The earthquake waves also spread to Lahore, Jhelum and Chakwal in Punjab.
According to the US Geological Survey, the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2. However, NSMC confirmed that it is 6.0.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan, as the country is located on the border of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Large parts of South Asia are seismically active as a tectonic plate known as the Indian Plate is pushing northward into the Eurasian Plate.
Recent earthquakes highlight the importance of disaster preparedness and mitigation measures.
