Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has defended the protest of his party workers on May 9. Talking about the upcoming general elections in the country, Khan said that his position will only be weakened if he loses the vote bank. However, dozens of party bigwigs, including Shireen Mazari, Ali Zaidi and Fawad Chaudhry, have parted ways with Khan citing attacks on military installations.

“First of all, we will fill all the positions that have been left,” he said, adding, “So younger, newer people will come in. Maybe they will also be arrested.” Khan also said that he might be put in jail and added that he is watching the whole scenario and waiting. “The idea that I’m going to admit it or I’m going to accept it and be quiet about it, that’s not going to happen.”

The ousted prime minister also raised the question of what would be the benefit to Pakistan by removing him from the race. “I wonder what they want to get out of all this.” Speaking about the May 9 riots in which PTI workers damaged government property and stormed military installations across the country, Khan said: “I have never spoken to any party worker. In a way that would give rise to such events.”

He added: “The term red line means a country where there is no rule of law and people are picked on.” “If I am put in jail, there will be a reaction,” he added. The PTI chairman also said that the elections will be held in the same year anyway. “We will campaign for this election no matter what.”
