ISLAMABAD: The Special Committee of the National Assembly on Audio Leaks continued its work on Thursday and issued a summons to former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar’s son Najam Saqib for not appearing before the committee. gave Its warrants can also be issued.

A meeting of the National Assembly’s Special Committee on Audio Leaks was held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chairman Aslam Bhutani, in which apart from the committee members, officials of the Ministry of Interior and FIA participated. Committee member Sheikh Rohail Asghar demanded an investigation into the bank transactions of the former chief judge’s son and said that the officials of the Ministry of Finance should be summoned in this regard. Asghar further said that the son of the former Chief Justice is considering himself as the Chief Justice.

The special committee in its previous meetings had reiterated the principle that no one should be condemned unduly and had decided to summon PP 137 ticket holders Najam Saqib and Abuzar Chadhar and their mutual associate/friend Mian Uzair. . In the fourth session of the committee, his personal explanations regarding the alleged audio leaks will be presented. However, none of the concerned persons attended the meeting or appeared before the committee.

The Special Committee, taking notice of the non-compliance of the said three persons with the directions of the Committee, recommended the recall of Najam Saqib, Abuzar Chadhar and Mian Uzair under the inherent powers of the Committee as provided in the Rules and Regulations. It said that the sanctity of the electoral process should be ensured so as to discourage any corruption in issuing party tickets to the contesting candidates. Relevant laws to prevent bribery in connection with party tickets were also referred for guidance.

The committee therefore recommended that the Finance Ministry be approached to seek records of financial transactions between the bank accounts of Najam Saqib, Abuzar Chadhar and Mian Uzair to ascertain the authenticity of the financial transactions in the alleged audio leaks. .

Aslam Bhutani said that the committee or Speaker’s office did not get any order from the court not to summon Najam Saqib or stop the committee from proceeding. The committee sought legal advice from the Ministry of Law regarding Najam Saqib’s non-appearance before the committee. The ministry advised that warrants may be issued for non-compliance with the committee’s directions.

After completing the legal opinion of the Ministry of Law, the Special Committee of the National Assembly on Audio Leaks issued summons to Najam Saqib under Clause 4 of Rules 227 for non-appearance despite summons and issued a warrant for non-appearance in the court. He also gave an indication. At the next meeting, a senior official of the NA Secretariat told the committee that the panel was working under the rules and regulations of Parliament and was not doing anything that violated the law. He reminded that the committee has the same powers as civil courts and if necessary, it can not only issue summons but also arrest warrant.

Former federal minister and senior member of the committee Chaudhry Burgis Tahir said that if Saqib Nisar had any respect for the law, he would have sent his son for the committee meeting.

Committee member Sheikh Rohail Asghar questioned that any court has the authority to stop the proceedings of the special committee of the National Assembly.
